2005 marked the 50th Anniversary of the Canso Causeway!
In an electrifying and memorable week-long event, from August 7th to 14th, 2005, the Strait of Canso Area came alive with ceilidhs, dances, concerts, exhibits, fireworks, and so much more.
"I have been to a number of events this past week and must say that I have enjoyed every event to the fullest. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday so far so "Great." To those who missed the SAERC Ceilidh on Wednesday, I have said that it was the best $20.00 I have spent in one heck of a long time.
I am from Port Hawkesbury and give so much credit to all the organizers for their hard work to make this such a successful week of celebrations. Thanks for such great events and entertainment."
Virtual Museum
The Canadian Heritage Information Network and the Virtual Museum of Canada work with small museums and community members to create on-line exhibits that incorporate permanent collections, records and oral histories to provide a venue for people to see who and what had a hand in shaping their community. The Gut of Canso Museum and Archives in Port Hastings has completed a virtual exhibit that explores the reasons for and the history of the Canso Causeway.
